Jennifer’s Body is a supernatural horror black comedy that was released in 2009. The movie has since gained a cult following for its feminist content. Interestingly, the #MeToo movement helped Jennifer’s Body be recognised as a ‘feminist horror’ movie.
An unexpected pairing
Jennifer’s Body featured Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried, with the former starring in the titular role. In 2009, Fox probably topped every “Most Desirable Actress” list. She was a surprising revelation from Michael Bay’s Transformers.
Amanda Seyfried, on the other hand, was well-known for her roles in Mean Girls and Mamma Mia! Who knew the cute, ‘I-wanna-wrap-her-in-a-blanket’ girl from the aforementioned movies would combine forces with Megan Fox to give us one of the most memorable lesbian sex scenes of all time? If you did, your pants are most definitely on fire.
The famous scene in Jennifer’s Body
Without spoiling the movie, I’ll get right to the scene. Needy (Amanda Seyfried) is alarmed to find Jennifer (Megan Fox) sleeping in her bed. Unlike any sane person from an average horror movie, she switches on the lights of her room and realises it’s her friend, Jennifer.
As Needy shouts ‘Get out!’ Jennifer replies with, “But we always shared your bed when we had slumber parties.” Yeah, that’s not the same thing, Jennifer, you beautiful mess.
Needy is clearly not that bothered with Jennifer’s presence and she doesn’t put up much of a fight when Jennifer adjusts her hair and moves her spectacles. “I won’t bite,” says Jennifer. Do you guys smell that? It looks like someone’s cooking a pot of foreshadowing here.
There’s a reason this video has 300+ million views
Jennifer leans in for a kiss. Like a sans battery multimeter, Needy still does not show any resistance. In fact, Needy, impressed by this proposition, kisses Jennifer back. The camera zooms on their lips.
The roles reverse, Needy takes charge of the situation. She pushes Jennifer back on her bed and gets on top of her.
As Jennifer’s hand makes its way under Needy’s shirt, Needy snaps out of it. It’s alright Needy, you can like whatever you like.
A subtle romance
The scene ends with our girls having a post-makeout heart-to-heart.
For a movie with one of the best lesbian sex scenes in recent times, Jennifer’s Body surprisingly does not explore Jennifer and Needy’s romantic relationship in-depth. In fact, both are characters our depicted as heterosexuals.
However, some fans argue that they both “had a thing” for each other. Their relationship definitely transcended from a normal friendship. Agree or not, it’s still open to interpretation.
One thing’s for sure – we all shipped Jennifer and Needy throughout the film. No? Just me? Okay.
